Henry David Thoreau was arguably America’s first anarchist. Graduating from Harvard University, he abandoned the world of fame and fortune for one of quiet reflection and soul-searching. Adapting a simple living approach to life at his hut nearby Walden Pond, he undertook his brief experiment in civil disobedience. His refusal to pay years of back taxes to protest the Mexican-American War would eventually inspire him to write Walden, or Life in the Woods and Civil Disobedience. Our Henry David Thoreau t-shirt features simple front print of the American ascetic, whose time in solitude bore the foundation for peaceful revolution in Western civilisation.
