A native of Birmingham, Alabama, she grew up surrounded by revolutionaries and internationalists in a segregated country, building herself as member of the Communist Party USA,
recipient of the Lenin Peace Prize, founder of Critical Resistance, retired professor, and fugitive from the law. Davis remains a symbol of the Black struggle against American apartheid and a spokesperson for Cuban solidarity.
