NOBODY SHOULD BE IN PRISON FOR WEED
Biden has recently pardoned everyone convicted of marijuana possession under federal law and said that the US will review how the drug is classified. Around 6.500 people convicted from 1992 to 2021 will benefit from the decision. Unfortunately, the number of convictions under state laws outweighs those who have been charged with a violation of federal laws, so the fight is far from over. Governors need to follow Biden’s lead.
Mandatory minimum sentences are nothing more than a gateway to big business, and keeping the prisons full does the same for lawmakers’ pockets. Double goes for selling marijuana, especially since no one’s ever proved its such a danger to society. So chain smoking and alcoholism, but pothead bad? Beautifully executed logic considering the opioid crisis. Despite these mental gymnastics, marijuana’s rising up as states pass legislation for legal sales and medical use. Our pro-drug legalisation t-shirt says it all with a big front print: if you can blaze in New Mexico but get locked up in Texas, its really all about perspective!
