US politician Harvey Milk helped America realise that it could achieve progress by actively working towards a dream. America’s first openly gay politician, Milk’s short career on SanFran’s Board of Supervisors saw enormous improvements to LGBT rights amidst opposition from Christian conservative reactionaries—fighting the Briggs Initiative, empowering local gay businesses, and protecting the burgeoning LGBT community from vicious attacks in the streets as well as the workplace.
